As a Women’s Health and Nutrition Coach, I ravenously read everything I can find on women’s hormone health, anatomy, and nutritional guidance, in addition to my certification program. I have highlighted my top 6 favorites below which share information on the menstrual cycle as well as peri-moonpause and moonpause. My goal is to empower you with direct tools to step into your Healer Creatrix.
If you are looking for methods that fuse both goddess empowerment and wise women rituals with science and eastern medicine, I have outlined the ways and methods for living in ritual and in harmony with your menstrual cycle in my 5 week online course: Goddess in Rhythm. This course brings you into the kitchen with recipes for each phase of the menstrual cycle and gives you ritualistic practices for your full embodiment of the Divine Feminine to balance, naturally.
Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler
My top recommendation, this book teaches an in depth, anatomical, hormonal understanding of the female menstrual cycle in addition to the changes in hormonal and bodily fluctuations in peri-moonpause and moonpause.
It share methods and graphs on how to chart your cycle, how to effectively use the Fertility Awareness Method for both increasing conception rates and preventing pregnancy. Knowing how our hormones fluctuate through the cycles of womanhood is the foundation of our energy levels, our sexual desire, our mood and emotions.
Through the Fertility Awareness Method, we learn how to use a basal body thermometer as our birth control- by tracking our temperature, which fluctuates throughout the month due to progesterone levels increasing post-ovulation. It also teaches about cervical fluids and cervix position, which indicate fertile times vs. post-ovulatory infertile times of the month.
This book truly empowers women to Take Charge of their Fertility and not to fear or feel confused by their cyclical changes.
The Hormone Cure by Sara Gottfried, MD
If you are a looking for a book that walks you through the main hormonal symptoms: Low Progesterone, Low Estrogen, Low Thyroid, Excess Estrogen, and High/Low Cortisol, Gottried explains the symptoms of how you are feeling and matches this with the hormonal imbalances. This book is a guide for self-exploration/self-diagnosing, giving tools to overcome imbalances, naturally.
Her research is based on double blind randomized studies and she also shares case studies of women she has personally worked with to help balance naturally.
After working a 120 hour work week herself as an MD and having both high and low cortisol levels (extreme burnout), and drinking lots of wine each night to fall asleep, she became her first case study which led her down the path of helping other women get to the root imbalances.
Balance Your Hormones, Balance Your Life by Dr. Claudia Welch, MSOM
Into Eastern Medicine? This book takes the perspective on hormonal balance with Ayurveda, Chinese Medicine and with energetics like the relationship of Yin and Yang energy (contractive and expansive) to the menstrual cycle. It also has a nice blend with western analytics, as well.
It introduces nutritional tips, stress-relieving tips, and information about fertility and how the birth control contraceptive affects this.
The Woman Code by Alisa Vitti, HHC
Vitti takes the reader on a journey of her own history of PCOS, excessive acne and weight gain, and how her experience with the medical industry was not bringing the results she wished for. Her hormones balanced when she took research into her own hands and used herself as her own scientist/guinea pig to apply methods of Functional Medicine, natural cyclical rhythms and seasons, nutrition, and feminine energy.
This book was my foundation of the enlightenment of eating for the four seasonal phases of the female menstrual cycle that I teach about in my course and in my Youtube Moon Cycle Cooking Series. It also gives an in depth understanding of the role of stress, blood sugar balance and food cravings/weight gain.
Fertility, Cycles, and Nutrition by Marylin M. Shannon
I love this book because it shares so many supplements and specific vitamins and minerals that help with fertility, PMS, and menstrual irregularities. This has been a great resource for me to gather information on nutrients needed and so I translate into the kitchen with yummy recipes for hormone balance.
Women’s Bodies Women’s Wisdom by Christinane Northrup, MD
Last but definitely not least, this book is what started me on this whole journey. As I was in the School of Metaphysics learning the ways of the mind and Laws of the Universe with the principles of “Thought As Cause,” I felt a deep pull to understanding more of my femininity and the emotional energetics of our sexual organs.
I was pulled to this book and coincidentally, I found out my best friend was reading it at the same time. This book goes through our anatomy and how to care for our sexual organs: the breasts, the uterus (womb), the ovaries, as well as menstrual, fertility, peri-moonpause, and moonpause support.
Northrup is an incredible Gyno, helping women heal their issues of cysts, fibroids, endometriosis, with a vast amount of methods: nutritional changes, surgery, supplements, lifestyle changes, and even through emotional release of releasing stored trauma.
She is a truly a modern day Goddess and has gone on to write more books like The Wisdom of Menopause and Goddesses Never Age
I would love to hear which books you’re going to dive into in the comments below! Have you read any of these? Which are your favorites that you have read- any you want to add to this list?
There’s a whole other list I could add here of books within women’s sexual empowerment + goddess wisdom. Eventually, I will do so. And eventually, my book will be one of them! But for now… happy hormone healing and cheers to radiant feminine health!
